Taking care of children

With over 100 children living at the YWCA each year, child care items are always in high demand.  Here are items that can help us take care of the children:

Getting around town

Families who live at the YWCA and those seeking employment at the Empowerment Center need:

  • bus tickets (10-ride or 30-day passes),
  • cab gift cards, and
  • gas gift certificates

to help them get to/from job interviews, medical appointments, and apartment viewings.

Feeding the family

Putting food on the table can be a challenge for many people served by the YWCA. Our resident pantry helps. You can help too by providing:

  • grocery store gift certificates
  • non-perishable food items
  • Hand can openers
  • Meals in can or box
  • Canned vegetables, fruits or meats
  • Canned/box juices
  • Cereal
  • Cooking oil
  • Food items such as rice, beans, tortillas, adobo
  • Paper cups/plates, etc.

Making an apartment a home

An apartment is just a few rooms; a home is warm and inviting. Help make a home by donating household goods and cleaning supplies.  See our detailed list:

Going to School

Many YWCA program participants are seeking to further their education and we also have many children who live at the YWCA. Having the right supplies can help students get their course work done.  Items needed include:

Learning Computer Skills

More and more employers require applicants to fill out online applications. To create a learning environment for these skills, we want to set up a computer lab. To do this we need:
