For more than 15 years, the YWCA Madison Race & Gender Equity Department has provided training and support to individuals and organizations who are committed to race and gender equity. YWCA Madison partners include large corporations, government and public sector organizations, as well as non-profits and funders.

Racial Justice Programs

Women and people of color who participate in our training programs gain tangible job skills and access to employment fields in which they have traditionally been underrepresented.

Racism affects all of us, regardless of what we look like. The elimination of racism is an on-going process that requires persistence, commitment, and continuing dialogue between individuals and groups. The YWCA is committed to helping individuals, organizations, and companies in the Madison community improve race relations and find ways to eliminate racism through constructive dialogue and meaningful action. The YWCA achieves these goals through:

Restorative Justice Programs

We use restorative justice to provide alternative discipline models in schools to keep students in school and out of the justice system.

Restorative justice is a philosophy that guilds resolving problems that have caused harm or damaged relationships. Restorative justice prioritizes accountability and community healing over punishment, shifting the focus from what rules were broken and what punishment is deserved to what harm was done and how to repair the harm.
