Community Based
Restorative Justice Program

Our community restorative justice program has two components:

1. Community Center after School Programming

2. Municipal Citation Restorative
Justice Process

Community Center After School Programming ↘

The Community Center after school programing is run by our community restorative justice program coordinator who is currently working in partnership with:

  • Goodman Community Center

  • Warner Park Recreation Center

  • Kennedy Heights Community Center

  • Meadowood Community Center

  • Bayview Community Center

Our Restorative Justice Coordinator works with middle school aged youth at each site weekly for 2 hours after school.

Restorative Justice Club focuses on community building, social justice, conflict resolution, non-violent communication, and the collective sharing of their experiences in and out of school. They are also trained in Restorative Justice practices, such as circle, in order to help support their peers who have received municipal citations. Youth lead the creation of clubs within their community centers such as cooking club, anime club, and leadership club, as well as working on incorporating the culture of Restorative Justice into the community center as a whole.

At each of our partnering sites we offer:

  • Professional Development

  • Restorative parenting workshops

  • Circle practice in the community

  • Community Center referrals

  • Healing processes for youth

  • Youth development to become circle keepers

Municipal Citation Restorative
Justice Process ↘

The municipal citation restorative justice process is run by our Community Restorative justice intake coordinator who receives direct referrals from Madison Police department, Middleton police department, and Crossplains police department.

Our program partners with Briarpatch youth services who also work with Sun Prairie Police department and receive referrals from their municipality.

Any youth aged 12-16 years of age who qualifies for a municipal citation (non traffic) is referred to Restorative Justice from the ticketing officer. Upon completion of the youth restorative justice process the youth no longer has any record of the citation.

Our Municipal citation circles are a two step, appointment based process that take place at our partnering sites with our Intake Coordinator:

  • Goodman Community Center

  • Briarpatch youth Services

  • Meadowood Community Center

  • Warner Park Rec. Center

  • Bayview Community Center

Our restorative justice Circles involve youth who are trained to be circle keepers along with our intake coordinator. Our circles are youth centered and focus on ways to repair harm and heal.
